Benedict Cumberbatch--gay or nay?

While Sherlock Holmes, as depicted by the new BBC miniseries 'Sherlock', is not homosexual.  A few people seem to be asking another question: is Benedict Cumberbatch gay?

Wel, according to interviews he has a long term girlfriend, Olivia Poulet, also an actor, and plans for having kids.  So, for those of you out there who I see Googling the question, the verdict seems to be 'not gay'.   Or at least, not very gay.

THANK GOD! ;)

By the way, there is nothing wrong with being gay, so I don't get the comments that say "Thank God" he's not gay. He is so incredibly good looking that it is no wonder women and men find him attractive. And is it relevant or anyone's business who is gay and who is not?

It doesn't matter whether he is gay or not as long as he is happy and to the people who said thank god are sick there's nothing wrong with gay people !!!!!

They said 'Thank God' because the writer is a woman. She is thankful that she has a chance no matter how slim. And vise versa for the second comment. Also, he is a celebrity so people are naturally curious about his life, which is why gossip rags do well. I assume you're curious too or you wouldn't even be on this page.

I don't care if the actor's gay or not, as long as he keeps being such a great Sherlock.

honestly. i think there should be a gay holmes and watson. you've seen the tension and chemistry between the two characters played throughout the media. only question i have is WHY NOT? in a more open society surely we can let these two gentlemen be who they are and not, for lack of better words, slum it down. it is a mystery not "sex and the city" >.>

Just for the record, as a gay person with a kid, wanting kids and being gay are not mutually exclusive.

Also, dating someone of the opposite sex is perfectly compatible with being bisexual.

Just sayin'. No idea about La Batch, but my guess'd be bi.

In reference to the comment 'why not make a show about Sherlock Holmes and John Watson who are in a homosexual relationship?' The writers did think about this, but they realized the focus would no longer be on the crime solving and adventure, but about a rather narrowly defined relationship between the main protagonists.

Awww, i really do love him on Sherlock. He's a great actor and who actually cares whether he's gay or bi in the long run? As long as he's there on the telly who's complaining?! :)

Right because, as we all know, a homosexual man has never married a woman and produced children in order to keep up appearances.

veinglory said...

He doesn't strike m as the 'keeping up appearances' sort. While he, and the whole world, may be bi--he strikes me as a guy who has a girlfriend for the obvious reason... that he fancies her.

There's nothing wrong bout beeing gay thats true ,by the way my uncle is ;)

But im happy that benedict isn't :) I love him,i wanna wake up lying next to him :) That fact that he isn't gay, makes it easier to dream about that (even when i know it will never happen -.- )

PS: yes im a little bit crazy ;D and thats O.K (=

The people who are saying thank god are obviously saying that because they are girls who would like to get with him. I am pretty sure they are not against homosexuality. So please, stop saying that they are against homosexuals and play nice children.

Its not normal to be homosexual and history tells us that. All these neo liberals forcing us all to be home friendly is disgusting. Bout time the worm turned.Bloody Shirt lifters.

I think he is very cute. It would be nice if he were gay.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the "thank God" had to do with that particular person feeling attracted to Mr. Cumberbatch, and holding some kind of fanciful hope of meeting him. Who knows?

Anonymous said...

This anonymous says, it is too normal to be either heterosexual or homosexual, or anywhere spanning the breach between.

Anonymous, October 2, 2011, "History tells us that"? Huh? That's the good part about being a neo-conservative. You don't have to concern yourself with trite little details like fact-based evidence. You just select a stance and then conjure things up out of thin air that back your stance. Don't worry your pretty little head about actually basing your opinions in anything vaguely demonstrating some kind of attempt to read, research, or generally working to actually grasp the topic that you're discussing. Just come to a conclusion and make stuff up that backs it.

And this all has to do with Cumberbatch's acting ability how???

veinglory said...

You assume this blog is about his acting ability why?

To all those questioning the point in all the "thank god" comments, i think the idea is that every girl wants to beleive he can be hers. and he's gay, he cant. just like im sure all the gay guys are saying 'what a shame'.

Actually, he never told me he had a girlfriend when he had my cock up his ass.

to all those saying that Sherlock and Watson should be gay, it wouldn't work because Sherlock is a sociopath, and sociopaths don't tend to have many feeling towards other people, therefore don't tend to have any type of sexual orientation. This is how Sherlock is portrayed at the moment and I think it works really well :) and I AM sherLOCKED

Anonymous said...

Thats true but Watson is ment to be the one person who can get through to sherlock and i think that by making them have feelings for eachother would take that one step further and show that he is the only one who sherlock really cares about, which i think would be nice :) xxx

There are only two types of fans, the catch me before I kill again kind or my bedrooms just a taxi ride away. Which one are you?

I prefer Jeremy Brett. He is the best SherlocK Holmes!

I knew He wasn't gay, just because he drinks tea,has curly hair, and wears a long cote doesn't make him gay. I wish poeple would stop sterio-typing eveyone it makes me sick.

For me, and of course that's all I can really attest to, I just wanna see/hear/read about Sherlock falling in love and lust with Dr. Watson. Even pushing the happy-ending-craving, mushy, heart-swelling hopeless romantic in me aside, I think it has validity. It makes him a more multidimensional character, adds some good ole angst (sorry but that "i feel this is so wrong but so right" angst does it for me every time!) and I think it leads to a more well rounded, multifaceted story. Yes maybe the love affair might take a chapter or two (or an episode or two, whatever) away from just pure WHODUNIT and mystery, but why is that necessarily a bad thing?? And as far as that beautiful Benedict with that smooth voice of liquid foreplay... I don't care who he's f*cking, man or woman, I would just like to watch please. No? How about the mp3 version? I hear Grammy potential!
